4 MYTHS ABOUT NGOs THAT ARE NOT TRUE
When people hear "NGO", they immediately picture distribution days, cameras, volunteers in branded shirts, and people receiving support.
But there are so many assumptions people have about nonprofit work that are not exactly true.
Let's talk about a few 👇
Myth #1: NGOs only show up when there are cameras around.
Reality: Most of the work happens behind the scenes — planning, coordinating resources, meetings, follow-ups, volunteer management, and making sure help reaches the right people. All these are not for the cameras. Cameras are secondary.
Myth #2: NGOs only need money to make impact.
Reality: Impact also needs people, partnerships, ideas, time, skills and committed hearts willing to serve, not just money.
Myth #3: NGOs only help people during emergencies.
Reality: Many NGOs focus on long-term change through education, advocacy, empowerment, mentorship and community development.
Myth #4: Small acts don't make a difference.
Reality: Some of the biggest changes start with one person, one conversation, one helping hand or one opportunity given at the right time.
Community impact is not always loud. Sometimes it's found in the quiet work, the consistent effort and the people choosing to show up repeatedly.
